Professor Michael Muller is a pre-eminent General Surgeon.
For nearly 20 years, Professor Muller has worked as a full-time staff General Surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital where his practice involves acute general surgery, trauma and burns treatment.
He is a Professor in Surgery at the University of Queensland and an Honorary Adjunct Professor at Bond University.
With a deep commitment to teaching and sharing his knowledge, he has for many years been involved teaching medical and physiotherapy students, he conducts an active, wide-ranging research program, serves on the executive of many national and international professional bodies, and has won prestigious awards for both his clinical contribution and his research presentations.
Professor Muller has expanded his private practice. He is a member of the Spring Hill Specialist Group and operates at St Andrew’s War Memorial Hospital, Sunnybank Private Hospital and North West Private Hospital.
In early 2015 Professor Michael Muller and his partner, Professor Keith Towsey, took over the Hernia Clinic of Brisbane which they operate from their base at the Spring Hill Specialist Group.
Hernia and Burns Specialist
Dr Keith Towsey is a General Surgeon with an interest in complex abdominal wall hernias and burn surgery.
After he graduated with Honours in Medicine, Dr Towsey completed his residency at the Royal Brisbane Hospital before serving in the regular Army as a Medical Officer.
Dr Towsey transferred to the Army Reserve in 2004 in order to complete his surgical training and achieved his surgical fellowship in 2008. The following year he completed post-fellowship training in Burns and Trauma.
As an active Army Reserve surgeon, Dr Towsey has been deployed to numerous theatres of operations including Indonesia, Afghanistan and Western Samoa.
Dr Towsey currently has a public appointment at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital as a Burns Specialist and at the Redcliffe Hospital as a visiting General Surgeon. In addition he is a member of the Panel of Clinical Experts of the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) for the review of medical prosthetic products.
Dr Towsey has extensive experience in hernia repairs (both open and laparoscopic) and has introduced to the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital laparoscopic assisted component separation for the closure of large ventral hernias.
